Standard Serbian - Lower and Upper level

Course overview: A modern, interesting and creative course, specially designed for young participants from Serbian diaspora. This course also introduces participants to the Serbian literature.

Course aim: A lower level course is intended for those who know, although uncertainly, how to use grammar structures and have limited vocabulary knowledge. Higher and advanced levels are intended for those who know Serbian grammar very well and who try to put it into practice. As the participants of those two levels already have considerable vocabulary, the main task that they have to perform is to enrich their knowledge with the language shades in meaning such as colloquial expressions, jargon, adequate use of various functional styles and similar things, to get informed about the Serbian literature and partially history.

Teaching methods: Visual and audio techniques, which motivate students and encourage their creativity, are used in teaching. Assessment of comprehension is done through translations of some songs. Psychological tests are convenient for conversation and simulation of everyday situations which develop interactive skills. This is a course with the Serbian teacher, small groups with 5 students on average (maximum 8 per group).

Course material: A coursebook by `Zavod za izdavanje udzbenika` and University of Novi Sad

Prerequisites for the participation: Basic knowledge of Serbian for the lower level and intermediate for the higher level.  All the participants have to take a placement test before starting the course.

You Will Learn How To: The participants will improve all four language skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing. This course includes revision of already acquired grammar structures and acquisition of new ones, a vocabulary boost and along with it `speaking`.

Course activities: Visual and audio techniques, dialogues, multimedia, essay writing, debates, games which motivate students and encourage their creativity, are used in teaching. After finishing the course the participants have to take a final test.

Course prospects: The course helps participants to feel more confident while using the mother tongue in everyday speech.

Recommended Next Courses: We recommend the continuation of the English course in taking the course compatible with the previous one in Concord language schools. To have a link click here
